Force 50 H.P. Thermostat Troubles??

Hey guys. Just wanted to ask a general question here to make sure I'm not losing my mind. Have an 89 50 H.P. Force. Water seems to be circulating pretty good (spits out normally out exhaust and lower end spitter) But the head keeps getting very hot! to the point where it can boil water off.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. This could just be a thermo issue yes? where as the Thermostat is not reading the temp correctly to allow cooling water to flow? I'm going to pop it out tonight, but I wanted to bounce this off. Water pump was done last season, I sure hope I don't need to do it again...

Re: Force 50 H.P. Thermostat Troubles??

I took the T-stat out and cleaned it up. It was stuck, and now it's working perfect. I tested it prior to putting it back in the head with the string in hot water trick and it opened up no problem. I'm still having the issue with the no water coming up. to the head. Tried re-positioning the Water tube, and will test that out again today. Anyone have any ideas, or schematics on getting the water tube properly positioned? Checked pump and imp, all look good and flow water perfectly. my only guess left is when the waterpump was re-done the end of last season, the tube was not placed properly. Could this be? that is the only thing supplying water to the head right? Seloc doesn't help much, they have no schematics and really not much for this engine, aside from general maintenance stuff.

The tube is actually pretty cheesy looking. Looks like I could have made it with some 1/2" copper. Could that be right? Is that OEM or something someone who owned it prior could have rigged up?

Re: Force 50 H.P. Thermostat Troubles??

Ran the engine this morning, After resetting the water tube. Runs EXCELLENT! I get a beautiful stream from the head water outlet. I made sure impellar, gaskets and water housing were good and put it all back together.
Seems that when I had the Water Pump done last season they never put the water tube back in the right spot. It took some negotiation, but I felt it slide into place and BAM!. I guess it pays sometimes to do the work yourself! Thanks everyone for the help.

Hope my experience here helps someone out who's having the same troubles. I've become almost pro with this water system on this engine and know where the ins and outs are. Be glad to help anyone with this if I can, maybe this will motivate me to get my 70 HP Johnson running again too! :D LOL. Thanks Again.
