I have a 700 CCA deep cycle marine gel cell that will not turn the engine over.

I have a 900 CCA optima spiral cell AGM that will barly turn it over only once.

Both these batteries should be powerful enough to turn the outboard, right? Is it just that they are deep cycle, or is the starter going bad?

~gratis

500cca should be more than enough.
Don't know enough about those gell and spiral batteries to comment on them.

But we used a 3 year old "regular" lead/acid deep cycle battery to fire up many engines, much larger than yours.

I would try "normal" starting battery, maybe one from your car.
If that doesn't do it, then you have a problem.

Start by cleaning and tightening all cable connections from battery, solenoid, starter.
