Hello I need help. I have a 1989 50 HP force outboard that i only have spark coming out of one coil. I switched the 2 coils. the other coil fires. so that rules out bad coil. my next guess was the cdi box. i changed cdi box with another one i had that i know was good. no change. so my next thought was the stator. i changed the brown/blue stripe wires with the brown/yellow stripe wires and still no change. so my next guess was the trigger. i switched the 2 sets of wires coming from the trigger and the other coil started firing. does this mean my trigger is bad?? i have another trigger that have solid color wires, hooked that up by cross referencing the color codes still no difference. i need help because i have a fishing tournament next weekend and really needs to be running by then. all help would be appreciated.

i forgot to mention to mention that if the stator would happen to be bad, i have one but it only has 4 wires. two blue and two green with yellow stripes. is there anyway this stator would work with this engine.

Re: Force 50 hp spark to only one cylinder

Hello all. Seeking help. I'm am new and clueless to the boating world. Two days ago I purchased a 1980 20 hp Chrysler O/B motor from craigslist for 60.00. I have hopes to get it running great and put it on 18' alum boat.
It's elect. Start w/ key and it turns but does not turn over. When push key , carb opens and closes. Getting gas fine. Good compression. I don't think no spark in plugs. What to do? Do I need to buy a puller to pull off top drum from motor? What is a stator, trigger, and rectifier???
Do I need new electronic box w/ harness??
I need help. Anybody. Thanks folks.
