force 50 hp

Hello, my force 50 hp 1987 keeps trying to jump out of gear at all different speeds. it just kinda slams and jerks the motor for a quick second<br />sometimes its fine and other times it happens frequently<br /><br />Could it be out of adjustment on the shift rod even though i did not touch it or maybe the clutch is bad.It did run out of gear lube last season and was full of water when i drained it.<br />thanks for any help <br />dave

Could just be a worn shift dog sometimes called a clutch dog.Older Chrysler/Force linkage has an adjustment to be sure it clears the pump housing<br />you may want to remove the covers and look<br /> at linkage to be sure it does.<br /> Get a service manual before starting any repair.

I tore apart the lower end and found nothing wrong except where the shift rod screws in and out was adjusted wrong from when i last installed the lower end to the rest of the motor<br /> thanks dave
