Re: Force 50 impeller change
I just changed the impeller on my 89 Force 50 hp today. 4 bolts at lower break point, then the coupling on the shift rod in the front right and center of the engine (lock nut). as you take the 4 bolts out, release the shift rod at the same time (little of this, little of that) - My lower unit just slid off. When off, at the bottom of the shaft - take off 4 bolts, pull shaft up and out of lower unit. Lift the water pump housing and impeller up the shaft, remove the pin for the impeller, then slide the impeller off the shaft, and the new one on (take note of the direction the fins on impeller are bent. Impeller only goes on shaft one way (see slot for the keeper pin in the shaft). When you put the shaft back into the lower unit spin slightly clockwise to insert -- when putting the lower unit up into the shaft insure the plastic spout on impeller housing goes into water tube in the upper unit, and put the shift rod in the small hole to reconnect.
