While stopping and starting (pulling shrimp pots) my always easy to start low hour Force 70hp suddenly would not fire. checked fuel which was coming fine, checked spark... dead on all three. Is their a typical small issue that happens? I am not a brave back yard mechanic, but can read and follow directions fairly well. I was farm boy so am OK for the fairly straightforward stuff. Any ideas where to start?

Not totally familiar w/ that engine....one power pack or two? If its one, I would start there. Get yourself a good manual, it will tell you how to test your CDI module(s). If it has two, then I doubt they both went bad at the same time. Could have blown the stator. Again, manual with show you testing methods. Of course before anything, I would check for loose/broken wire connections. Could be as simple as a loose kill wire or neutral safety wire. Ive had that happen.

His motor should be post cd module ignition.

He should have a switchbox instead.

I would check all wiring very carefully.
Pay particular attention to the safety kill switch wiring. And double check the kill switch itself.

Get yourself a Clymer repair manual and follow the detailed ignition troubleshooting section.
most everything can be checked with a $10 voltmeter.

Hopefully you will be able to quickly determine if it is the stator, trigger, or switchbox
