FORCE 70HP- Newbie with a few questions needs a little help!

Hey guys-

Im new to the forum and I must say, the wealth of information here seems to be immense! With that being said, I was wondering if someone could provide me a little information about my motor?

I have a 1994 Pontoon boat with what I believe is a 1994 year model Force 70 HP. The engine engine serial# is 0E051740. Can someone confirm what year this motor is?

Second, can someone confirm what the OEM Part# is for my switch box? I need a new one and it is my understanding that Mercury used two different boxes between 91-95 and I want to make sure I buy the correct one!

If anybody can recommend an aftermarket brand and a website to buy it that has the best prices, that would be great too!

I have the same motor in a 1992 and thought I might need a new switchbox recently (I didn't) so I looked around a bit. Found this one on ebay, which looks identical to my control box -- only it's in a lot better shape than mine!

And no, that's not my listing, nor would I see a dime if you were to hit that 'buy it now' button...lol!

So, does that look like your control box?

Also, please understand that I have *no clue* if that's a good price on a used control box.

EDIT -- Should probably ask...how come you need a new control box? That is, what's wrong with the control box you have now? Perhaps someone here can advise on how to fix it and save yourself some $$$.

Welcome to iboats Jdcapps.


There were actually 3 different ignitions used from 1991-1995.

One had cd modules (blue). early 1991 models.

The second had a switchbox with screw terminal connectors. Part number 332 - 7778A12 or equivalent. 91b - 92c models.

The third had a switchbox with bullet connectors on the wires. 92d - 1995 models..

Serial numbers from OE000001 thru OE065371 were used in 1992-1993 Part number 18495A26

I'd guess you have a 1993 model.
