Hello
I have a 1985 85hp Force. The middle cylinder was not firing. We had it test and was told it needed a new coil. We replaced the coil and have the same problem. Any suggestions?

Re: Force 85 Coil problems

I had a similiar problem on a 125hp Force and I fixed it with a used power pack. The power pack taken out of the original engine was black. I replaced it with a blue power pack and the coils that stem off that power pack were replaced with blue coils. I was told to do it that way by my local boat shop.

Re: Force 85 Coil problems

just last week I had the same problem, turns out it was the CD module which controls the spark, luckily the 85hp comes with a spare, the same ignition goes on the 125hp four cylinder, you need to follow the wire going from the center coil ( should be orange ) to the CD, un-hook it and plug in the spare ( should be red ). then follow the blue lines from the stator two of them splice together and the other one dead ends tie them together and give it a shot. My model is set up with quick connectors, yours may have a terninal strip were all the wires come together which makes it alot easyer.

credit for the later part of this scenario goes to Rollie who just helped me figure it out.

Thanks-Goodluck

Re: Force 85 Coil problems

Last year needed a CD on the 125. I'm all blue and he put in a used black CD only. Still runs great this year with same plugs. At 50 hours I'll reach into my bag of used, low time, oven cleaner cleaned plugs, and change them. OH yes, decarb first!
