o.k. fly wheel off replaced stator. The top two spark plugs had oil and carbon on them. the bottom plug was clean (like new)this is a new motor to me so i don't know when they was changed last. Question, the flat top spark plugs that come in it, are they the best for this motor? What are the best spark plugs for this motor? What is the timing setting on this motor? What rpm do you set the timing on? i'm thinking after the flywheel comes off and a new stator the timing needs to be checked. previoous owner replaced power packs, cd's, and rebuilt all carbs. this motor has the blue boxes on it. I am getting a manual for it but can any one direct me in the proper procedures for setting timing. Time is of the essence.

Unforgiven,

Static Timing; Remove the spark plugs. Set the throttle to wide open. Crank the engine and check the timing with a timing light. (you may need to bypass a safety switch to get the engine to crank.) The timing should set at 28-30 before top dead center.

Note:
Dynamic timing: On the lake with the engine running WOT, in gear, is the most accurate way to set the timing. It should set at 30 BTDC.
