Best bet is to get the manual for your engine and use the Search function at this Web site. Plenty of help, tips and tricks right here - it has been done before.

Re: force 85 hp outboard motor

Hey Bob - grab yourself the Seloc manual for the Force motors (check it out in the Mega Mall (up top) or on Amazaon). With it, I was able to rebuild all three of the carbs, re-adjust the choke, re-adjust the throttle and reset the idle speed. I'm not an engine man, and I was able to figure this stuff out. Larry (Charger183) is a good guy, and is very experienced with this motor. I guess, ask both of us, and we'll get it!

Ry.

Thought I might add a thing or two if you want to go at the lower end before you see the book. Disconnect the shift lever in the middle (front) of the lower unit first. NEVER REMOVE THE RESESSED SCREW IN THE GEAR CASE. IT HOLDS THE SHIFTER LINKAGE IN PLACE!!!!!!!!! There is an ALLEN SCREW hidden inside the exhaust extension in addition to the 6 unit mounting screws holding the lower unit to the upper case. When you drop the gearbox watch out for the plastic centering part that sits on top of the drive shaft. Remember its orientation. The pump is held on by 4 stainless 1/4" bolts, 2 long/2 short. When you lift the pump houseing off watch for the direction the impeller fins are bent. A little Vasalene on the new parts will stop any wear in the beginning. Larry
