Re: Force 85 shift linkage adjustment help

Install the shifter.
Run the cables.
How much extra do you have?
A cable with out a couple of extra feet will be too short and not work right.
Install the cables in the shifter.Put in Neutral.
Put the shift linkage on the motor in Neutral.
Then adjust the connectors so they match.
Pics of the connectors and the connectors on the motor.
Just to make sure they are right.

Re: Force 85 shift linkage adjustment help

Thanks for your response, I think I found the problem, I purchased a shifter online, but the throttle linkage lever on the shifter mechanism was a little different than the original, we changed it with the original and did as you said , both shifter and engine in nuetral and adjusted the cable ends and it seems to work fine, getting ready to do a sea trial, Thanks again !

Re: Force 85 shift linkage adjustment help

we went for a sea trial, the shifter worked fine but it flooded out a couple times , while idling in no wake zone I noticed gas dripping from top carb, I ordered rebuild kits but was wondering if you know how to remove the E-Clip that holds the rubber seat in carb ? I will have to put that response on my account too so I can send you check. :D seriously Thanks for your help

Re: Force 85 shift linkage adjustment help

Before you open the kits.
If possible compare them to the old stuff you removed.
Most times they are wrong.
Most times all that's needed is a good cleaning.
I use Dawn and hot water.
Then blow with comp air.
No cleaners or soaks(unless it's REAL bad).
Not sure what you mean by(if you know how to remove the E-Clip that holds the rubber seat in carb ?)
Most needle/seat.The seat won't come out easy.
Ethanol and carb soaks can expand the rubber in the seat.

Re: Force 85 shift linkage adjustment help

I haven't received the kits yet to compare, but it seems the rubber seat that the float needle sits in is indeed expanded or bulged out, it is pushing the needle up which inturn is pushing on the float not allowing the gas to shut off, the rubber seat in the 2nd carb did not look as bulged and the float sat a little more level with the carb when inverted, the clip I am referring to is the E-clip or c-clip that fits in a groove where the needle sits that holds the rubber seat in.

Re: Force 85 shift linkage adjustment help

Ethanol(maybe) or some carb cleaners or carb soaks make the rubber swell.
Just wash with soap and water and blow dry and let it set in the sun or a warm room and it should shrink.
Another guy got lucky and drilled out the rubber with a 1/16th drill bit.
Not sure I'd do that.
The kit might contain a new needle/seat.The seat is pressed in and might be a B trying to remove.
Just take your time and don't destroy the base.
Sent you a PM
