Ok I'm a auto tech, have been for a long time. This is my first boat, I have no idea what i'm doing. need some help.
I bought a 89 Bayliner with this 85hp force engine in it and it's not a out board it's inside the boat (ha! see I know nothing about boats). I bought it for 500.00 and it's really nice, like new nice, but the head was off it and there was some pitting on the piston. Not very much looks like water was getting in the cylinder, Cylinders looks great, I got a head gasket, i'm going to clean up the top of the piston and put head back on and take compression test. If that"s ok,want to run it to see what i'm working with, if it needs anything else or if it even runs.
It has been sitting awhile, maybe year or two, besides drain gas check fuel filter, new plugs. For those of you with all the knowledge how would you go about getting this thing running. What are some common problems that I should be looking for. I have a manual (clymer) that has helped with specs ect.I would be very grateful for any info you give me. Thank you in advance.

Re: Force 85hp newbie advise

you have an L-drive, basically a outboard powerhead running an outdrive.
squirt some 2-stroke oil in the carbs and each cylinder then turn the flywheel clockwise only by hand to get the cylinders lubed up good. Good price, but L-drive doesn't have good track record but if you get it going, take care of it.

change the impeller also
