we have a 1994 force 90hp on a jet boat and we had to replace the flywheel. when that was done the mechanic said there was no spark. after checking the wiring and all the connections he deduced that it was the powerpack. how do you reach that conclusion and how difficult is it to replace for someone with good mechanical skills but no boat knowledge?

Re: force 90 no spark (power pack questions)

Hi,
I also have 1994 90HP Force and I just replaced the powerpack (switch box) and the stator. It took me about an hour.

If you replace the flywheel and now you have no spark that it’s may be a flywheel issue
Because the magnets on the flywheel creating the magnetic field on the stator that generate the spark..

Make sure you got right flywheel. For example the flywheel for 4-cylinders will not work on 3-cylinder engine.

Alex

Re: force 90 no spark (power pack questions)

Alex, Not to butt in on the subject with chino, i have a 1990 50 hp force, I hooked up a new battery and cranked the engine over and have no spark now. I have power to the starter, solenoid, choke, follow to coils, and nothing from there down. All breakers are in, not kicked out, fuses are good. Cant figure out how hooking up a new battery would cause a problem. I had spark with the old battery prior to intalling the new one. I can pretty well take everything apart, i see no burned wires or anything obvious.
Engine turns over great...no spark....seems weird , maybe something blew out while hooking up new battery, flustered on my dilema, new battery caused a new expensive problem...Have you or anybody else ever experienced this? ....jas....

thanks alex...good suggestion. we looked at the new flywheel but not extensively. the mechanic said it was the same as the one he removed but i should verify it. someone suggested we check the terminals. could it be so simple that maybe we are being taken for a ride?
