I'm working on a 94 Force/Mercury SportJet 90 and I've just cracked it open to get at the crankshaft and Pistons. Once opened up I noticed that the connecting rod ends have dots stamped on them corresponding to which cylinder they're on ( 1 dot for #1, 2 dots for #2 etc). This in my mind is peculiar since why would they do that at the factory? I'm guessing the engine has already had a rebuild or had a reason to have been disassembled thus requiring markings for reassembly. Anyone shed any light on this matter? I mic'd the cylinders and they all read the same as factory specs.
