Force 90HP stuck down

My Force engine trimmed up then down then up then down then stopped. I do not know what year it is, just that it is black (wow that really does identify me as new to this) Anyway, the engine is trimmed down and there seems to be very little hydraulic fluid (evidenced by the fact that none squirted out when I opened the filler plug, despite warnings that it would)<br /><br />Reading in this forum everyone says that I merely need to lift the engine and fill the fluid, however I cannot lift it. I have checked for any signs of locks, but can see none.<br /><br />The motor seems to run both ways, although there sounds to be significantly less resistance in the up position.<br /><br />Any help as to how I can get this engine up would be most welcome.<br /><br />Thanks anyone

Add the proper fluid to the top of the filler plug and try to cycle the motor up and down, if this takes care of the problem make sure you top off the fluid. You will also want to make sure everthing is nice and clean, other then someone removeing the fluid the only way to lose it is a leak in the system so if the area is clean you might see where the leak is.

ENGINE HAS TO BE IN THE UP POSITION TO CHECK YOUR FLUID OR ADD.WHAT YOU CAN TRY IS TO SWAP RELAY'S AND SEE IF ENGINE TRIMS UP. THERE IS A RELIEF SCREW TO MANUEL RELEASE VALVE TO LIFT YOUR ENGINE. ;)

Re: Force 90HP stuck down

WAIT a minute, some Force trim units are "Different". I have one of them.<br /><br />Most trim units have the pump located betreen the transom mounting brackets, this is an "internal" pump.<br /><br />Some of the units have the pumps mounted about 6 inches to the side of the motor<br /> mounting brackets, this is an "external" pump.<br /><br />If you have an "external" pump, then you have to have the motor in the lowered position to open and fill the oil. There is NO manual relief screw on these units. This type of pump uses different oil also. It uses 10w 30 engine oil.<br />This info is all confirmed in manufacturers owners manual, local dealer, and Clymers shop manual.<br /><br />I had similar trouble with mine when it was one year old. Filled oil and cycled up and down several times. Then repeated several times to make sure all air was out of system, and that there was plenty of the correct type of oil. Haven't had any trouble in six years.<br /><br />If you post model number, and serial number, someone should be able to tell you model year.<br />Numbers should be located on starboard side of engine between the transom mounting brackets.

Re: Force 90HP stuck down

My reply was in ref to the external pump, with a internal pump you would have to be in the up postion to fill. From what I know there is no relief valve for the external, but it sure would be nice if there was once the battery is out for the season the only way to move it is to put the battery back in.

Re: Force 90HP stuck down

Thank you all,<br /><br />I will get out my toys and play with it later on and see what I can do, It is an external pump model, and engine oil would explain why it doesn't look like hydraulic fluid. One more q though, If the engine should be down when you fill it, then I guess the fluid level is right, as it is level with the filler plug.<br /><br />As I said before the motor whines away in both positions, how else can i test that it is in fact pumping apart from stripping the pipes.

Re: Force 90HP stuck down

Dear those who help :) <br /><br />The model number of the engine is 708E92C can someone age it for me,<br /><br />Alas refilling did nothing for me, so I started to strip down, this is what I found.<br /><br />The plastic casing of the trim seems to be made of two parts, the inner of these is cracked, in addition there seems to be a small hole in the cylindrical side of the pump (is this normal) I think I could probably find an appropriate glue to fix the crack in the plastic casing, but is there any point?<br /><br />Does anyone know where to buy the thing new from if needed.<br /><br />Thanks all

Re: Force 90HP stuck down

right, having been a bit more adventurous, i stripped down the pump, I now know that the hole is supposed to be there, now that i have some reasonable oil it looks like it may start pumping again. The crack in the casing is duly araldited, now all i need is to find an appropriate o-ring. Hey if anyone out there wants to know about external trim units on a force 70-HP, i'm your man ;)

Re: Force 90HP stuck down

Looks like a '92 Model if you meant your # was<br />"90"8E92C instead of "70"8E92C. Otherwise, that would make it a 70 HP! I assume the heading of this post should have been 70 HP. Still a '92 Model!!
