Hello,

I have a 1991 Force 90hp with the dual exhaust lower unit. A year ago I lost compression on one cyl so I rebuilt the top end. This year I have replaced the tilt/trim pump and was thinking all the major problems have been fixed. Well... I was wrong. Took the boat out Friday and it seems now my lower unit is in need of a rebuild. I found out that my lower unit has a small crack in it and it leaked out all the oil! I have always had some trouble with water getting into it but I have not found the issue. One problem has been that the shift shaft seal keeps popping out of the housing. I replaced the seal but I have had a time with it staying in. I thought I had the problem fixed at the end of the summer last year but I think water was in the lower unit over the winter and that caused it to freeze and crack (I had back surgery about 3 weeks after my last trip last year so the boat was the last thing on my mind was winterizing the boat). I am going to take it off tomorrow and hopefully see how bad it is. I can turn the motor by the flywheel but it is pretty tight.

Here is my question: How hard is it going to be to get the bearing hub out of the housing? It seems like a tight fit. I am a mechanic so I have pullers etc... Could I use low heat (propane torch) if it is tight. I'm really hoping that I can get by with just changing bearings. I really don't have the funds right now to sink a ton into it but summer is coming up. I am also hoping that I can get the crack Tig welded after I get everything out of it (it's only about 1 inch long).

Any advice would be awesome!
