I am attempting to replace pistons in my 1990 90HP Force outboard. Can not get the pistion pins out of old pistons. Book says I need a pistion tool kit FT-2990. Where do I get that? Can I have a machinist press them out? There are no retaining pins on this model. What is the gap setting between the needle bearings and the spacers for the new piston and piston pin? Has anyone done this before?

Re: force engine piston pin tool kit

I just replaced my pistons on my 120HP, but those pistons did have retaining clips for the wrist pin. I simply popped mine out with a screwdriver as the new bearings had retainer clips. I will double check my manual when I get home, but I do not recall the 90HP having different set, but if they do, a machinist can simply press them out. You should have a new wrist pin and needle bearings with your new piston.

Sounds like you have the old Chrysler pistons...you have to press them out.

TMD

Thanks, had a machinist take care of it. New pistons have a retainer pin.
