FORCE ENGINE WON'T TURN OVER

I have an 85 Horse Force engine (L drive) in a 89 Bayliner. Last time I had it started it had sat in the garage for almost 9 months. It only ran about 15 seconds and now won't turn over. Someone told me that the water pump could've jammed from going dry. He said it would have sheared a pin though. I thought I would start by looking at that impeller (water pump), but just wondering if that is hard to get to on the L drive, and if anyone thinks the whole engine is shot. Sure would be nice if it is something simple jamming it up. The whole thing was rebuilt and only used 3 seasons. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: FORCE ENGINE WON'T TURN OVER

Put it in neutral, remove the plugs, and see if you can turn the flywheel by hand with the plugs out.
If so, your problem is the starter, starter solenoid, battery connections, or battery.

If not, the problem is a siezed piston, driveshaft. or lower unit.

Next step would be to drop the lower unit, and see if it will then turn over. If so, the engine is good to go, but the lower unit is siezed-up (probably from water getting into it).
