I've got a '95 Force 70 hp with the external tilt and trim pump, the one that uses motor oil and is filled with the engine lowered. It has no manual release.

If I should have a leak or line break, the motor should lower down, right? And I might be able to manually raise it up to get it on the trailer.

But if I were to have a motor or other electrical failure, the motor would be locked where it stopped.

My question is, is there any way, other than removing a line to relieve the pressure, to get the motor up or down, in the case of an electrical failure?

roscoe:I disassembled my hyd. valve on a bench by directly jumpering the motor to 12v.I suppose if this situation happened,if prepared w/small jumper leads you could direct connect the motor leads to your battery tmns. This of course doesnt address a malfunctioning motor.Still you probably realize if stuck up just cracking loose a line will lower it.

CBU, thanks. That confirms what I was thinking for the last few years. I would hate to crack open one of those lines, and have the oil replaced with air and water, but see no other way. I guess I had better pack a few more tools in the boat toolbox to handle those little fittings, just in case.

Re: Force external T/T , no manual release

Guys... I have a similar problem. My boat is stuck at the lake unable to transport because the motor will not tilt up. Trim down switch works but nothing on up. How can I manually or what ever get this motor up so I can transort to my house which is 50 miles from the lake I left it at. Motor skeg clearance is about one inch from highway. I know where the relays are and I am thinking one is bad. I ruled out the up trim switch on the throttle as the bow trim switch will also not raise the motor but the down function works as you can hear the whirr of the TiltTrim motor. This is a 1995 force 70 hp with the PTT unit that sits on the right side of the motor. Suggestions so I can bring my boat home before it is vandalized/stolen....

Thanks

David

if the up solenoid is bad you might try switching the leads from solenoide to the motor.Use the good solenoid on the up leads?Or jumper from battery to the up lead.Blue?

Simple enough to unplug the relays and swap them.
This should work.
I believe you need both relays in place, as the power supply goes thru one, to reach the other.

If this doesn't work, then:

Switch the blue and green wires where they plug into the wiring harness, between the trim motor and the relays.

Third way to do it:

Unplug the blue and green wires from the tilt motor, use jumper cables to connect to the battery. Simply reversing the 2 cables will change the direction.
(sparks may fly, so be carefull of gas fumes.

Good luck.

iv had this problem also ,what i found was when i take the tilt moter out of its casing it will spin the moter up and down because theres no pressure on it it seems to warm up,place it back in cylindrical housing and try it again,at the bottom of the moter theres a small hex shaft its tricky getting back in but it worked for me i have also replaced my pump oil from 10 grade moter oil over to automatic transmission fluid now it flys up and down
