Force Gear Shifting

Hello, I have a 1996 Force 75hp. I rebuilt the entire lower unit this past winter and am having an issue with it not going into neutral or reverse. The thrust washer is installed correctly. I seem to not be able to figure out the issue. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? As you move the throttle you can see it moving on the engine but for some reason the prop is staying locked in the forward gear.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The shift linkage isn't in the right spot.
96Force is a Mercury lower unit with Force linkage/shift.
If the lowers stuck in F the shift yoke probably didn't get hooked up right?
.
Drop the lower, remove the front cover seal and pull the shift rod and see if the gears shift?
There a slotted screw on the side of the nose cone? Possible the slotted screw/pin broke or missed the hole in the lower linkage??

Basically take it apart and put it back together.
Make sure it shifts before the reinstall.
Pics of the lower unit? Possible that you have a different one?

Sorry I just now realized you responded to this, everything was correct however the u shaped brass piece on the end of the prop shaft fell off causing it to stay locked in place.

My next question, does anyone know what the spark plug gap is supposed to be? I can't seem to find it online anywhere.

Any auto parts store that sells plugs should have the gap in their reference material.
.035 is a good place to start if nothing is found.
