The lower unit on my 1990 Force 90hp motor seized up over the weekend, and my mech advised that I should replace it w/a remanufactured one(about $1500). I have had numerous troubles w/this motor and don't want to put any more money in it. I have found a 1996 Yamaha 85hp motor that is in my price range, and was wondering if the Yamaha 85hp will be as strong or stronger than my Force 90hp??

The Force motor is not even worth $1500. The Yamaha would be a great choice if you know that the motor has been taken care of. The 85hp Yammy will probably outperform your existing Force despite the lower horsepower rating on the cowling.

I agree, you will be happier with the Yammy, they are very dependable. Probably more fuel efficient too.

gamiller - I realize you've had it with you're 90 Force. My 90 Force blew a ring last summer, so I have a used lower unit, which I'd like to sell. If you haven't done the Yamaha deal e-mail me... delse1 at mchsi dot com.
