Force ignition problem

97 force 40 that will start but when key is released the motor dies. Is this an ignition problem or motor problem. TURN KEY MOTOR RUNS PERFECT RELEASE KEY IT DIES???

Only the following things can cause this;<br /><br />The ignition switrch is bad.<br />A short in the wire harness to iether the ignition switch or the wrist lanyard switch.<br />On the port side of the motor, find the black wire with yellow stripe attached to a terminal strip. Disconnect it ,and retry. If it runs, you'll have to touch the loose wire to ground to shut the motor down. Also, if it runs normally, you will know the motor ignition and circuitry is fine, but a problem exists with the wire harness or ignition key.
