Force lower unit

I have a Force 85 lower unit that I want to change the impeller on. The boat is an hour away, so I can't get the serial off of it easily. The lower unit looks similar to the ones I have seen in the 84-89 Force Clymer manual, but the water pump loos a little different (does not have the two gaskets, looks like that shape is molded into the bottom cover). The unit has a "3" stamped on the lower unit by the fill hole. Any idea how I can tell what year it is?

If you have an 84-89 85hp, which it sounds like you do, the year and all other parts information would be identified by the model number, not the serial number.<br /><br />Example:<br />858F7A<br />----^-<br />The 8 with the arrow under it represents the year. In this case '87.<br /><br />I don't know of a way to determine the exact year without this number. Sorry.
