Re: Force lower unit
First you should get a Serloc manual, and yes you should change out the impeller, if it's more than 2 years old or if it's age is unknown, the stripped oil screw is a pretty easy fix, if you can't extract ( Easy-out tool ) it, drill it and retap it with a larger brass plug or stainless-steel plug, some people use a heli-coil insert when they retap, but that is realy not required, when you drill, you might want to coat the drill bits with grease to hold on to the drill filings, after that you'll want to flush the lower unit with kersone to get any additional drill fines out, to remove lower unit, first put engine in neturel, then disconnect the linkage, there is a pin/cotterpin at the front/top of lower unit, then remove the exhaust nose at the end of cavation plate, then there is a bolt under the exhaust nose, just loosen it, then remove the 3 bolts on each side, under the cavation plate, then remove the last bolt were the exhaust nose is and slightly pull down, and it should come off, providing the previous owner greased the splines, when the last water pump was changed out, the first thing is to pull the spark plug wires & pull the prop, the water pump has 4 screws holding it to the top of the lower unit, the drive shaft will be going through it, you might want to get a couple of cinder blocks on each side of the lower unit to hold it upright when you work on it, some people use a workmate clamping table vise too, what ever don't lean the drive shaft agaist the wall, this might slightly put a bent into it, and you'll have issues later, be sure to grease the spline lightly upon reinserting the lower unit.
