Year: 1985
Make: Force
Model: 85 HP
Serial #; 856F5A

I just bought a boat with a 1985- 85 HP force motor.......It has not been ran in a couple years. the owner would rotate the engine every couple months. What should I do or change to ensure proper engine use?

I want to completely flush the fuel out of the carb, tank, and fuel lines. Put in a new fuel filter and rebuild the fuel pump in it. De-carb the cylinders and carburator with a good carb cleaner....Put in a new water impeller in the water pump and flush the coolant passages.Lube the bottom end. Also, put in a new battery and plugs. Then when it runs decent I want to do a compression test.

Well, there ya go then. It appears you have a good handle on what to do, Revo.
I would run a cold compression test first tho,just to give me an idea of what I had.
And the only thing I would add to your procedure is;
remove,clean,oil the steering shaft.
Once removed,clean the pivot tube with a shotgun bore brush to remove any rust.
Grease all fittings back there.
Clean and lightly oil the starter bendix (WD40 werks great for that).
And welcome to iboats :cool:

Thanks, I appreciate the reply. My shop manual will be here next week. I wanted to make sure I had all the bases covered. My experience is with car engines. I have little experience with boat motors.
