Force motor with problems

I am considering buying a 1989 Vip Vision 17' boat with a 1989 Force 125 HP engine. Today the owner took us for a test ride and although it will pull a skier up on 2 skis it will not pull up a slalom skier. There were 4 people in the boat, the boat is rated for 6 people. When we start from a dead stop the engine seems to lack power. It seems to take a long time to reach top speed and it doesn't seem to rev to top speed. When the engine is warm it would idle too slowly and when put into gear at idle it would sometimes stall. The owner said that it began to behave this way the previous time out and his opinion was that a tune-up would solve the problem. The prop is in relativly good shape however it does have some minor nicks on the leading edges of the blades. What do you all think? I told the owner I would get back to him this week. Thanks for your help.

Re: Force motor with problems

Hello foragedata. I own a chrysler and a lot of people tell me I am crazy. I have even heard worse things about Force. I was told if I am going to buy a motor I should get a Mercury. Money is a big issue to me and that is why I have a chrysler. I know finding parts is an issue with chrysler and force engines. Also seems like 80 percent of the posts here are force questions. Sounds like the motor already has some issues. Might want to spend a little extra and find something that you can have fun with instead of learning how to be a mechanic

As with any engine you wish to purchase...do a compression test.

Some people tend to get rid of their Boats for a reason.

For example The owner said that it began to behave this way the previous time out and his opinion was that a tune-up would solve the problem.<---------------Why would you sell something that is not working properly.

And why would you buy something that is not working properly.

TMD

Re: Force motor with problems

i have to concure with the good doctor.use caution in this matter.parts for force and chrystler motors can be had if you are willing to look for them.running a force myself also because of restricted funds.if you have the time and money i would strongly suggest that you keep looking.hit the rural areas alot of nice boats in good shape usually for sale.but in any case dont rush the decision...personally i would pass on the boat.i dont trust the situation..but thats just me.
