I installed a Force on my Pontoon, I replaced a Suzuki motor. I have the wiring figured out, and the force fires right up and runs fine. But when I turn the key off the force motor keeps running. Can anyone please tell me what shuts the force motor off when you turn the key off? Any and all help is greatly appreciated....

I'm not sure what year or HP Force you are referring to. Generally, Force shuts off by grounding the CD module white wire which discharges the electrical energy to ground instead of to the coil and finally to the plugs. On most Force ignition switches, there are two "M" terminals which are normally close in the off position. One terminal connects to the CDM white wire while the other "M" terminal connects to ground. When turned on, the terminals are open hence allowing the engine to fire or run. To shut it off, place the ignition sw in off and the CDM white wire gets shunt to ground thus turning off the engine.

Thanks a lot Jiggs, I will check that out as soon as the temps get down around 110. Mush easier to work when it is cooler and the sweat doesn't get in your eyes.

Like I said, it is imperative you let us know what year and HP Force engine you are working on. The color coding of the shut off wires differ by year and HP. Not to mention it will also tell us what type of ignition system you have, which will also make a difference.

125 hp, but I don't know the year. Somewhere between an 84-99 im sure. Is there a way to tell the year by the model number? I am sure it would really help to know the year. Bear in mind you are dealing with a OLD (79 years) boat motor cowboy dummy here.....If it had a mane & tail this old cowboy could fix it, but NOT when it comes to wiring !

Most 125's from mid to late 80's (last ones were 89's) uses the Prestolite ignition system. That means, yes the white wire from the CDM's is the shut off wire. If you can post a pic of the ignition system it will be helpful. But mostly the terminal board decal inside the engine cowl will show which wire is the shut off wire.
