Re: force prop
Yeah! And what are you towing? Tube? Wakeboard? Water skier? It makes a difference. Also, how many people in the boat and their positions when towing.
Just as an example, this year I picked up a ride behind a Merc 115 on a 17 footer. With 6 people in the boat, acceleration was sluggish and I could not get up on one ski. Even getting up on two skis beat me up to the point where I didn't want to ski. Wakeboard would have been easier, and a tube--no sweat.
Other than some aftermarket performance props, your basic choice is a Michigan prop and for that engine there are only four choices: 13 diameter by 15, 17, 19, and 21 pitch.
In reality, if the boat is propped correctly now for average conditions, it will most likely have a 13 X 17 pitch prop. Dropping down to a 13 X 15 Might help but when not towing or under light loads you might exceed to recommended operating RPM. However, If you don't know where you are now, then you don't know how to get where you are going. Gather all the info you can THEN decide on a prop change.
