Force reed valves bad?

1997 Force 75hp. Not that many hours, maybe a 100 or so. I have rebuilt the carb, new spark plugs, good compression, could it be the reed valves? I have them out for inspection and they have alot of gap. Probably 3 or 4 sheets of paper would fit in some areas. The problem is the the engine will not idle. If I choke it, it will run at idle, but as soon as I release the choke, it will start to die. Is it the reed valves? Or something else?

How does it run at mid throttle, or wide open throttle?

If it runs ok at higher rpm, I would double the check the idle mixture in the carb before messing with the reeds.

?

I have checked the idle serveral times. I have set the idle at about 1 to 2 turns out and no luck. In fact I have tryed about every setting possible from completely shut to wide open. No luck. Other thoughts?

could be the reeds but I would open up the carb again and double check the idle circuits and the float level. by choking it you force the fuel mix rich. usually bad reeds will toss fuel back out the carb in a mist. but sometimes on that motor it wont due to the 3 cyl single carb desighn.
