The trim cylinder on my 120 hp started leaking suddenly and when i took it apart to reseal, I discovered a gouge on the shaft. The shaft will not reseal and must be replaced. The gouge was caused by failure of a steel plate located over the point where the shaft presses on the moveable member of the mount. I recommend an inspection if you have a Force with tilt and trim. To inspect raise the motor all the way up and look underneath where the piston contacts the moveable element. If it is damaged, replace it now. a new cylinder is going to cost me a bundle---if I can find one.

Re: Force Trim Alert

You may be able to get the shaft rechromed. Might save you some bucks. There is a place in South Carolina that rechromes our lift and tilt cylinders on forklifts for us. Their name is Able Machine. Or call your local Forklift dealer and ask them where they get their lift and tilt cylinders rechromed. They may have a local place that does it.

Eighty bucks for the piston and fifteen for the bracket. Failure of that fifteen dollar bracket ended up costing and even hundred. That bracket is now on my semi annual inspection list for sure.
