Unless the fuel pump is severely underperforming, changing it will not increasae speed. For about 5 bucks, you can change the fuel pump diaphragm and gasket. Fuel pump is on the starboard side of the engine and the pump and cover is held to the bypass cover with six slotted head screws. Simply remove them, pull off the top, and put in a new diaphragm and gasket. There is no fuel filter on any force up until about 1995. I STRONGLY recommend that you install a cheap replaceable plastic filter (3 bucks, Wal-Mart, Napa, Pep Boy's Etc.) BETWEEN the fuel pump and carbs.

i always replace the pump not diaphragms

not worth my time to un bolt, dis-assemble and then new parts installed then re-install
