Hi there,
Im a complete newby to this forum,so please forgive,if this topic is in the wrong place.
To the point,
I have recently bought a 26 ft cobble,complete with a ford 2.5di engine,more or less fully marinised apart from one concern,it still has its road box fitted,which to be fair is working great in fourth gear,but theres the lack of a reverse gear.
Now,ive also obtained a hurth 5 gearbox,(luckily at no cost)but im unsure of its suitability for this engine,im aware ill need to cut a bell housing and obtain a conversion plate to fit the box to the engine,and i already have have the damper plate to fit the box,but before i go and spend a bit cash,my concern is the actual hurth gear box size.It seems these gearboxes tend to be used on low compression engines,mainly in the likes of sail boats,and im unsure if the box is suitable for a 100 hp diesle(high compression)
Is there anyone out there that could possibly give me a straight answer to this please,and any recomendations on an alternative box(if required)

Sorry, but pretty greek to most here. I'm confused though. What does compression ratio have to do with transmissions? It either will handle 100 horsepower and X amount of torque, or it won't. Compression is not "felt" by the trans. I looked for some specs, but I can't determine what you have vs. what this notes. Look here:
