I have a ski boat with a 351 clevo.
I recently bought the motor, the cam is lumpy & the heads have been p&p.
I am running a holley 750 double pumper & an electronic distributor.
I find it bogs down trying to get out of the hole, then at 3000 rpm it jumps to a top rev of 4,500.
Can anyone tell me what I should do to improve this.
Thanks
Regards Dave

Re: Ford 351 ski boat motor

Hi Dave,

I'm sure a lot of people will jump right in here but (If you have no exhaust blockage issues).. it sounds to me like the timing advance is all wrong.........and/or the advance is not coming in where it should.

You say it's an "electronic" dist? Is it a regular dist with Pertronix installed? If so, you may have a mechanical advance problem.

If it's truly electronic you might need to reprogram the advance curve.

Rick

If the cam is too lumpy you may not have the low end torque.

Are both the dist and carb marine units?

Ford stopped building the Cleveland in 1974.
The 351 C has the biggest valves in any small block which is why it has a reputation as a great hot rod motor.
You must have a 351 W unless something happened.
A good 351 C is worth some money to hot rodders.
