working on a 95 Larson 190 with a 5.8 ford carbureted motor. Rebuilt the Holley carb and reinstalled, prime the inline spin on fuel filter and it ran great for a few minutes and died..seems that fuel is not getting from the fuel tank to the fuel filter. I refilled the filter once again and again motor ran fine until the fuel in the filter was all used up and engine died again. The question I have is can a mechanical block mounted fuel pump be getting weak? It obviously is strong enough to get fuel from the spin on filter up to the motor, but doesn’t seem to have enough vacuum to get fuel all the way from the fuel tank up to the fuel filter housing. I removed the line from the tank up to the filter housing and easily blew air thru it with no restrictions. I also tried just removing the main line from the tank side and cranked the engine while thumb over the end of the hose and felt to suction from the fuel hose. This has me stumped and was just curious if I need to replace the fuel pump or look into other areas further. Any advice greatly appreciated as I’m trying to have the boat lake ready for this upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
Thanks,
Lance

Look at the fuel tank outlet. That outlet has a check valve in it (anti siphon). They sometimes stick.

Thanks..I pulled that out and checked the spring and ball movement and it seemed fine. I’m just curious why I’m not getting any kind of suction from that fuel line that runs from the fuel filter housing to the fuel tank

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... That's the tag for the drive, not the motor,.....

For a Test, use a remote tank, fulla fresh clean gasoline, 'n short fuel line from it, to the filter barb,....
If it runs right,.....

Ya got a fuel tank problem,....

Just a stab in the dark. There was a OMC service bulletin that said to be sure that the engine has BRETHABLE oil fill caps. There was a case where the PCV valve was pulling a vacuum on the crankcase so much that the fuel pump diaphragm would collapse and stop moving because some one put a chrome non breathable cap on the valve cover. You could set a stop watch to how long the engine would run out of gas.

Thanks...I’ll try running it off a portable also, just figured since it runs fine as long I prime the filter first then dies when the filter runs out of fuel that either the fuel pump was just to weak to draw fuel from any farther than the filter..I’ll also check that oil cap as well but it definitely is stock.

Can somebody advise of the exact model fuel pump for this motor as I can find as far as numbers on the mechanical fuel pump is Carter 0-3000 but when I try searching online and entering that number it pulls up multiple fuel pumps
