Hi, my boat has a 289 ford V8 driving a Volvo stern drive, and the fuel pump is the standard mechanical one Mr Ford gave the engine.
My attention has just been bought to something that concerns me, that is that if the pump diaphram gets a hole, raw fuel will leak into the bilge.
I've read about electric pumps, are these the way to go or are there safer marine style mechanical ones that would be better?

Regards Barry.

Yep. Not sure if yours might have come with one originally, but the common pumps for marine engines have a hose that runs from the weep hole to the carb.. I'm going to guess that being a mid 60's 289 V8. it probably did not have it, but something should be available nowdays, since Fords were still being used in boats till 1998

Ayuh,.... You could adapt a mechanical pump set up for an ole Merc. or Volvo,...
The diaphragm vent should run through a clearish tube to the carb/ or flame arrester,...
That way a ruptured diaphragm dumps into the intake air charge,...

If ya wanta go Electric, it needs an oil pressure safety switch wired into the circuit,...
