Hello,
I would appreciate any help.
I have a 1990 Four Winns, with a ford 351 V8. Any time I put the boat into reverse....she stutters and shudders, then dies....sometimes she will idle, and very rarely she will actually try to run for a second or two, mainly she shakes, then dies.
She runs fine otherwise....is there some way water is going back into the engine? Is there a check valve somewhere for reverse?
Any ideas would be a great help,
Thanks, Joe Kolak

Re: Ford OMC cobra reverse problem

It's possible your ESA module is staying active when you go into reverse. The module is meant to drop the rpm's in half momentarily as switch in or out of gear. There is an overstroke switch that is meant to prevent this from happening that is activated by a cam on the gear transfer lever where the remote and transom shift cables meet.
