A 1995 Taurus kind of fell into our possesion. The blue book is hardley nothing, its really not worth selling.

My question is,
Anyone here own one? What do you think of it?
How much can it tow?

Re: Ford Taurus

They are not recommended by the manufacturer for towing.
However you can tow around 1200 lbs safely.

Re: Ford Taurus

Oh, do I? Ready for this?
We bought my parents' 1990 Taurus for $1700 in 1999 with about 87,000 miles. We've put about $10,000 into it since then: Fuel pump, New transmission, heater core, radiator and about 3 water pumps to name a few. If we had it to do all over again we would have thought twice, but how were we to know? It was a bad deal, but we fell for it. It's a beautiful car when it's running. It's just a worry. We don't dare sell it now. We want what we put into it back out of it. I hope it's possible. I'm not holding my breath though.
I was spopiled with my first car, 1982 Toyota Tercel. Just a little dream! I still have it and it just keeps on purring right along.
So, that's my story.
Good Luck! :)

There are good and bad everything. I won't share my Toyota stories because I don't bash any product.

My brother in laws Taurus has 280K on it. Other than a water pump, CV joints and the normal stuff (brakes, lubes, tunes, belts, hoses) it's been spotless. Go figure.

Buying or ACCEPTING a nearly 20 year old car from the rust belt, or any belt for that matter, is a gamble no matter what it is.

The Taurus will easily tow 1000 pounds. Considering its age, I wouldn't go an ounce over.

Re: Ford Taurus

My friends mom has a Taurus. I think it is a 1990 model. It had a design flaw in the trans that was fixed last year. Two years ago the the head gasket leaked water into the No. 1 cylinder and that resulted in a bent rod, fixed that. Car is still chugging along and they take good care of it. Still, it's nothing like my Toyotas.

Re: Ford Taurus

if you mean it was given to you by "fell into our possesion" then what is the problem???

drive it till it falls apart then junk it.

I have driven Nissans for the last 10 years, just sold my two trucks, 89 and 90. bought a new 02 frontier. never had a problem with them. had a ford thunderbird once, 85 turbo coupe. put about 10000 into it. will not BUY another ford again. BUT if someone was to give me a ford taurus, i would gladly take it and drive it till something broke then haul it to a junk yard. hey it was free so what is the problem.

My current wife had one of those. She always tells me about how much in repairs she spent on it.

FORD = fix or repair daily...
we inherited an '87 when wife's grama passed
that was 10yrs old and had 32K mi.
(mind you this was car of the year in '87)
we had 2 buy 2 tranny's in 2yrs/40K mi.
sold soon thereafter for less than cost of repairs.

Re: Ford Taurus

I've got another year and a half before I get my licence, my dad asked me if I wanted it, I told him no.

This Taurus has 101,000miles on it. tranny and motor have never been touched. The oil has been changed every so often and its on 3ed set of breaks and 2ed muffler.

I don't want it, its no good for towing, I'd like to get a rear wheel drive car for my first car.

The Taurus is red and has a lot of scrashs on he body, no dents though.

I think we'll sell it or give it to someone in need, both my parents have got better cars then this one.

Re: Ford Taurus

I never owned a ford that I did not have major problems with. We have late model ford 350 utilitie trucks at work that are always broke down,,a constant headache. That said, at work we also have some ford 350 vans that are indestructible.

I've had a lot of cars. The worst was a '95 Chevy Blazer, the best a '92 Dodge Dakota. I had a '72 Ford Galaxy 500 with a 351 Windsor that would not die.

Yeah wvit100,

With every ILLEGAL part in the book, beginning with the car itself!

Never saw a 2 door Taurus like they race in Winston Cup!

Also, you cannot buy the Illmore engine that the Ford Teams use in any production car or truck that Ford sells, even though the rules are very explicit:

Car and Engine must be available to the general public thru your local dealer!

In my book, that makes them the biggest cheaters!

Kenny

Re: Ford Taurus

I'm a chevy guy, but I have (among many chevy's)a '94 Explorer that I bought new w/120,000 miles and NO problems, a good vehicle. It's been used hard and runs great.

Old job used Taurus's as fleet cars. Generally ran OK, but they got the living chit kicked out of them by idiots who couldn't drive. I was always amazed how well they ran, considering.

Every car I have ever owned was built AND assembled in North America... can't seem to buy foreign nameplates since my previous life in the domestic steel industry two decades ago. Wife used to buy Nissans and Hondas, and with all due respect, had alot more problems with them than we ever did with Fords and Chevys... Not flaming the foreign brands, it's just not in my mojo to have any luck with them, apparently.

Re: Ford Taurus

Keep buying them imports.
I dont know how people can justify the cost for
general service on them, just to keep the warranty
valid." They like the money overseas".
This comment should cause a commotion. :p
I know, Its a global market now. No protectionizm

Small survey...
would you buy north american.
or import.
