Re: Ford Taurus

My dad bought a new Ford Crown Vic LX in 1988.<br /><br />That car just won't quit. It rides just as good a a 2001 Lincon Town car. We have never done anything to it other then noramall stuff. Tranny and motor are stroung as ever. It now has almost 180,000 miles on it. The body has a lit of rust, but that because of all the New England winters its ramed threw. I love that car!!!!

Re: Ford Taurus

Don't know much about a Taurus, but the wife use to own a 1985 Tempo...<br /><br />The tie rod end broke right in half. Good thing she was moving slow up to a stop sign when it happened.<br />The wheel went south, and the car wouldn't move when she tried to get up to the stop sign.<br /><br />Dunno if a Taurus is in the same family as the Tempo, but check the tie rods if it has rack-and-pinion.<br /><br />I love Fords (with the exception to the Tempo)<br />Fords is all I ever owned. From my '73 Mustang to my 2001 Ranger. I haven't had any problems with them at all. <br /><br />Please...No Ford VS. Chevy...it really is getting old.<br />Besides...you tear them down to a bare block, and you have your basic gas/piston/internal-combustion engine. So what? :D <br /><br />H.

Re: Ford Taurus

Out of curiosity one day I asked a tow truck driver, "What kind of car do you tow the most?"<br /><br />His reply "Ford Taurus".<br /><br />Japanese cars cost no more than American for parts and labor repairs (at least in cities where there are a lot of them). German cars can be slightly more expensive than Americans depending on how common the model is. Swedish cars... ouch! <br /><br />If I lived or traveled a lot in remote areas in the US I would drive a very common ford or chevy model that any backwoods mechanic would be able to repair in an emergency.

Re: Ford Taurus

I'v seen a few hundred or more Taurus and Sables pass thru my father's dealership, I see more good ones than bad...But the bad ones are sometimes really bad they tend to be the same cars that might get a oil change every 10 or 12 thousand, and nothing is maintained or fixed unless there was no other choice, and yes there have also been certain model years that had issues with trannys and the 3.8litre head gasket failer, But the bad cars always seem to stick in minds, I have sold a friend of mine 3 Sables he has loved them all and each one has had over 300,000 k when he is done, He is now in a 2002 Taurus . I personaly own 3 fords 1993 escort gt 1998 Explorer and a 1994 Merc Cougar XR7 4.6l v8, They have all been good cars, but so have been 1985 camaro 1980 camaro 1977 volvo 242 1983 honda accord 1987 ford t-bird 1977 cougar xr7 1971 mustang 1976 ford granada 1980 pontiac 1981 olds delta88 ,the point is I'v seen alot a good cars from both north american and import, but I have seen a fair share a late model low milage junk from the same manufactures some due to bad design some due to bad service (bad mechanics)and some just simply had the crap beat out of them by owners... by the way my boat runs a chevy 350

Re: Ford Taurus

Hi No Sleep, after a life time of Ford's we bought a new Hyundai, warranty is bumper to bumper for 60,000, 10 years or 100,000 miles on the drive train, the Ford I am about to donate to charity had a 3 year or 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty which speaks for itself. No wonder Ford's sales are way down, keep pumping out junk and soon you'll be out of business. What are the Korean's doing that the big 3 can't seem to do. :D

Re: Ford Taurus

My friend was given a Taurus as his first car...'86 I beleive. Only had like 80,000 miles on it. He took it on a trip to california right after he got it (about 1000 miles) and the tranny craped out. Got it towed home and no junkyard would even think of taking it unless he paid them more than it was worth when it was running. Finally he found a charity to donate it to just to get it out of his yard. I know I would never drive anything but a Chevy or a Jeep...not to mention I think Tauruses are grandma-mobiles... ;)

Well...<br /><br />Since we're talking about Ford's...<br /><br />Anyone want to buy my 1973 Mustang Grande ?<br />Process of being restored/re-fit. Not much left to get it done. This was my second car I owned. hate to get rid of her.<br /><br />351 Cleveland V8 (runs..may need tune from sitting)<br />C6 Auto transmission (rebuilt)<br />Tilt steering (Not factory, but out of other Mustang)<br />Air conditioning (may need recharged)<br />New Vinyl Top<br />Misc. new trim, gaskets, etc...<br /><br />Too many projects..this one has to go, and I won't turn it over to my teenager! <br /><br />Actually...We want to sell it so my daughter can get a car she can handle and not rack up speeding tickets, as this car will most certainly do in the wrong hands! (I plead the 5th.) :D <br /><br />homerr999@msn.com<br /><br />H.

Re: Ford Taurus

Lol...<br /><br />If you are talking about a TEMPO...they are nothing more than a polished turd (imo)<br /><br />My Mustang is worth far more than any Tempo. And you can't even begin to compare an old Mustang to the newer cars, especially a Tempo.<br />That would be like comaparing a Corvette to a Vega!<br /><br />The Tempo's are a glorified Pinto. Pure junk. The wife use to own a Tempo too. Everytime you turn around it broke. When the tie rod snapped at a stop sign, that was it...We got rid of it.<br /><br />My mustang is the last of the big 'Stangs. They have REAL metal and engines unlike the cars of plastic today.<br /><br />Good 'ol muscle cars..nobody can argue about them!<br /><br />To each his own...<br /><br />H.
