I am fixing up my grandfather's 1977 Ranger Ford V8 AQ190a / 280 Volvo-Penta out-drive. He almost fell fishing off the shore last year and it scared him to the point where he decided to give up one of his favorite hobbies. So for his 75th birthday I'm fixing up his old boat. The only problem I've ran into so far is that the tilt/trim system was disconnected and when I went to connect it I noticed the tilt system is missing the ram and cylinder to lift and lower the motor. Sadly, I've scoured the forums looking for answers but I noticed that answers are scarce for this combo... I've also looked for parts and can only find rebuild kits. The crappy thing is I have no cylinder or ram to rebuild. Does anyone know where I can find a new tilt system or the parts I need? OR is it possible to buy a different tilt/trim system and install that? I can post pictures if that'd help clarify anything! Thank you guys for your help!!!!

Well a picture of your outdrive would help but 99.9% of Volvo Penta AQ280 outdrives had no trim. Only tilt for trailering.
If a tilt only AQ280 then at the lake you put drive all the way down and then start boat and never try to raise the outdrive at anything over a idle.
Back at the dock turn engine off and then raise drive for loading.
In the pic the yellow arrow points to your tilt system

What you see in that ebay picture is the complete system. The right hand end is the bottom which pushes down through the housing onto the drive and tilts it up.
