There are two types of boaters.. Those who have forgot the plug, and those who will forget the plug...

I'm guilty... :D

One time, remembered before I unhooked the boat off the trailer, but it made it in the water and had to drain for a while so it counts.

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

I always take my plug out, and I have never forgotten it. You are all convinced that can't happen, but it's the truth. Amazing really, as I can forget what I was doing 2 seconds ago . . .

Have owned a boat since '84. I am on the third one. It may be that boats are the only thing that I take seriously. Maybe that's it, yeah, that's it.

Never forgot the plug ever. Only time I take it out is if I clean the bilge. I only clean the bilge about every two years.

Boat has never leaked one drop and I cover with a sunbrella top in winter.

That the 100 percent truth.

I have forgotten it once....well my kid did :)but that was like the first time we put it in the water. I really never have a need to remove mine, so my chances are slim on doing it again.

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

I humbly admit I've done it once and only once which you probably would have paid admission to watch the events unfold.

My first year of boating, I did everything by the book. But once I became too comfortable it happened...... I FORGOT THE PLUG which I was quickly made aware of as the automatic bilge pump kicked off to give those standing on the dock a quick shower from the side of my boat.

To make matters worse, as I went to put it back on the trailer and away from shore, I caught a dock rope in the motor prop which left me with no power as my motor stalled when I put it in gear. Lucky enough I had my trolling motor and telescooping push pole to call upon.

Quite an embarassing show.

Just once for me ...so far..But it was only a 12' boat so I quickly pulled it back on the trailer. I guess this poll applys mostly to us that trailer every time we use our boats.

Not only did it, but at the worst possible time. During duck season, in the dark about 5 AM, at a freezing cold Lake Erie boat ramp. Hands got numb trying to find and put in the plug. Nearly sunk her, had to bail just to get her back on the trailer. Got out after a brief delay.

Not yet, but I have forgotten to remove my transom straps once and my winch strap once. Duh!

Friend's 12-foot fiberglass found-on-the-side-of-the-road jon boat, my 6-horse motor, first launch after extensive hull repairs (figure-it-out-as-you-go, before the internet was invented). Mid-January, no plug, knew I could never get it cranked, warmed up & idled outta the no-wake zone in time to get it up on plane to drain, so I had to paddle over & pull it up on the bank to drain it. Wet shoes, cold feet, coupla 3-pound bass, quite an adventure.

Well, I'll go with brutal honesty.. I've forgotten everything 1,2,3,4....... times.
Less as I get older...

For got plug quite a few times. Fortunately, my I/O was very heavy, as I forgot to put the ball coupler down once and the tiedown straps another time. It never budged.

In my younger days I forgot things on the top of the car.. People look at you funny when you have your fishing gear up there, another time I saw my tackle box in the rear view mirror rolling on the road

Only second season for me and I have NOT forgotten the plug yet. You folks have me too paranoid about it :D . Thats the first thing I think about before launching. It may happen one day but I'll never admit it here ;) .

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

I haven't done it yet, but am thinking of rigging something up on the trailer winch hook, so when you go to release the hook from the boat you can't not notice the drain plug sitting right there. Figure if you can get the plug stored somewhere that causes you to have to work around it for launching the boat, hang it on a little chain right above the ignition so you have to move it to start he boat, tape it to the throttle lever, etc.

Crap, you could prolly patent a little velco sleave that slides over the throttle lever that holds it so you never forget it.
