Sometimes I don't know how she catches on, sometimes she misses the obvious. Before I bought our first rowboat she caught me out in the yard painting a pair of oars. Later she mentioned that it seemed odd that I was painting oars when we didn't even own a boat...as far as she knew.

Re: Forgot to tell my wife...

Best policy is to tell the wife about a new boat purchase (or any purchase for that matter) is when you pull it into the driveway. That consolidates all the yelling into one event. Otherwise, you're going to get yelled at at least 4 or 5 more times: when you initially come up with the idea, when you go shopping, when she finds out the price, after she talks to the neighbor's wife that owns a boat, again when you close the deal, etc., etc., etc. Its a lot less painful this way!

I brought the Admiral along to look at the boats to make sure she liked them.

I'm still reminded regularly by CINC-Home on how poor my judgement was to show up with my bass boat at home without prior approval. However, I still subscribe to it being easier to ask for forgiveness than getting permission...

Ya'll married the wrong women our boats where the wife's idea so is the bike.
Not that it took a lot to convince me that we needed either one.

I feel badly for the guy that's in teh doghouse when he shows up with a boat. I feel worse for the guy that feels he has to hide it from the wife to begin with.

Re: Forgot to tell my wife...

Well I have been through that with my first wife. But she had a years notice and it didn't help one bit, snickers. I told her on my 39 th birth day that next year I was going to buy another boat. Had owned one when we got married and had sold it when kids had came along, and now that the kids were of a age to enjoy it, it was time for a new one. So a few weeks before my BD I started searching and found a project boat, It even had a small tree growing in it. Her look of shock was priceless when I backed it into the drive way. As she stomped off her comment was you will never get me out in that thing. After several weeks work with the help of my 3 girls, a few new parts. it was ready for the first lake test, On a nice warm Saturday morning as the girls were getting ready the wife comes out all ready to go with us so I called a family meeting for a vote to see if she was allowed to go with us. she lost. snickers. My X wife is one of those who by constant complaining can take to joy out of any event. We did let her go on the trips after that and by the end of the season she did admit it was a lot of fun.

My second wife gave my the down payment on my present boat, I traded up in several ways :D

way to funny i have talking about getting a boat for years and lived with having the idea shunned should of heard her laugh when i got the hitch put on couple of years back but making a offer on a 18.5 foot toy tomorrow even joked about it with her tonight and got the usual responses of how not worth i dont need it and you can live in it (i usually have tunned out by now) but the same thing happened with big screens and such i will show up with boat on hitch in driveway and let the fun begin

Yeah, dividing the family and giving everybody an opportunity to gang up one parent is the key to a successful marriage, alright...

Linda gets p.o.'d when she feels she isn't included in the process. Doesn't really matter whether she can add value to it or not, we're supposed to be a team. I always try to remember that, tho I'm not always successful. Sometimes when you stumble on a great deal, ya gotta go for it and just be prepared for the fallout afterward.

(why can't I insert any emoticons? This website has been flaky lately.)

Re: Forgot to tell my wife...

Buying our boat was my wifes idea. I told her it cost to much and she told me to quit being so tight and that i deserved the boat for all the hard work i do. We have a great time in our fishing boat. Did i mention i have a great wife?

Re: Forgot to tell my wife...

Guess I am more fortunate than most, my wife lets me buy anything I want. She is generally into all the same hobbies and things i am (offroad toys, boating toys.. fishing, etc..) Course, thats the one drawback, I can never leave her at home! she ALWAYS wants to come along! :D:p

My wife does the books in our house, so I gotta go thru her for big purchases. She is into horses so all my hobbies are cheap compared to hers.

What boat

What boat

My now divorced wife actually tried to get 1/2 my boat in the divorce. I quickly informed her that I owned the boat long before she was part of my life. Then I asked her for 1/2 the value of the wedding ring she no longer needed. She replied back with "that was a gift", not that I really cared, but my wedding band is at the bottom of a very deep lake. What in gods earth would anyone want with a ring that has no meaning?
