Hey guys, I am sure a few of you have noticed I was new and posting in some threads. On most of the boards I have been on, formal intro is the norm so I thought I would take this opportunity to say hello.
I live in Oregon, Wi which is just south of madison. I bought a 74 Chrysler Cadet. This was after one of my first small engines projects. My uncle had a 50s mercury 30hp outboard. I got it started and he gave it to me. I needed a boat, so at the ripe old age of 14 (14 years ago) I worked all summer and bought the cadet.
I recarpeted it etc.. and got it running. Enjoyed it for a summer. Got it out the following spring and blew the motor up. It overheated bad. Blowing up that motor absolutely broke my heart honestly. I should have kept it, but sold it for parts. I grabbed a 50hp evinrude (boat is rated for 40hp) and knowing nothing ended up with a friggin long shaft. I took it out exactly twice on the water. After that I covered it up and stuck it in the corner of our lot in northern WI for the last 10+ years.
In retrospect, I was seeing transom flex and the boat felt much heavier than the 225lbs that the lit says it weighs. Boat Is full of water and rot. I am looking forward to gutting it this summer, iboats has been a great encouragement.
Thank you all for your helpful answers, and I apologize for my stupid ones. I am more automotive oriented, so sometimes my thinking is a bit off (the fuel injection thread comes to mind).
Thanks guys, I will do a build thread for sure!!
