Recently I've seen a few chastisements for putting URLs in postings. What are the rules for mentioning particular stores or chains and products like those from West System. I've looked at the faq list and couldn't find an answer. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Not exactly, HM.

Direct links to any commercial site are not allowed, competitive or not. This includes signatures.

Referrals are okay. You can give the site address, as in "tcoutboard.com", but not a "clickable" link.

The reason has to do with internet statistics and search engines.

Re: forum rules

Remember Glasply, this site is sponsored by iboats for the benefit of them and their customers. They are the ones that pay the bills for us to be able to post on here for free. Try not to compete with them on their site and all will be fine.

Let me tell ya a story to explain. My family used to own a car dealership. There was a salesman from another dealership that I was friends with, and on occasion he would hang out in our showroom - until the day that a customer walked on, he greeted them, and sold them a car from his dealership! We remained friends AWAY from the dealership, but he was no longer welcomed back in our doors. He broke common courtesy. So don't compete with iboats in their showroom.

Above might not be iboats rules, but is business courtesy.
