Forward to Reverse without stopping!!!!

Help!

I think I damaged my brother-n-laws Yamaha 70 Outboard motor!

Running full throttle forward and thought to stop the boat and instead shifted into full reverse!

You can tell I don't know anything about boats!

How much damage have I done? The boat still runs forward with no problems. When placed in reverse it makes a grinding niose as if it's not in gear but moves the boat. Shut it down to prevent further damage!

Busted!!!!

welcome to iboats .... not the smartest thing boomerang ... not the smartest thing you've done ...... if it was my yamaha, I would be pissed let me tell you, ..... best thing to do is take that gearbox to a yamaha mech, they will have to strip the gearbox and replace the gears you fried ......

Very possible you bent the shifter pin and gears may be OK if you didn't grind them to fit. It will still have to come apart to repair.

There is some weird karma that will cause you to jam a running engine from forward to reverse without stopping and then having prescience to post here with the iboats ID of "boomerang". I understand your sense of humor. Stop tugging, my leg is long enough.
