Cruisin through Craigslist for my next boat.
Found a 1983 Bayliner with a Volvo/Penta drive system.
I'm know my way @ Mercrusier, "Rude outboards, but Volvo/Penta, well, not really.
I LOVE the Volvo 4 banger engine in cars through the years, HUGE mileage, little problem, so I'm hoping marine use will be the same.
What should I ask if I call the owner? (I like the fact it's a closed system, so I'm not pullin fresh water from outside through the motor)!!
What should I look for IF I go see it?
Any parts not available?
I can spin a wrench with the best of them, (service tech for Chrysler "4 wheel Land Crusiers" for decades, so repairs are not a problem, worked in a body shop for years also so fiberglass repairs and gel coat can be done also).
I'm also anal about my equipment, rather do heavy maintenance than be stuck on the water!
Thanks!
Joe

I would be more worried about rotten stringers and transom and floor in an early 80's bayliner

I dunno what motor or drive, all it says is volvo motor!
Perhaps the owner has no clue, (their are the worse)!
I usually ask if there is any soft spots on the floor, if he balks or doesn't know, I take that as a yes!
I have learned quick to always carry my ice pick and a small brass hammer to tap @.
