Has anyone posted a DIY Video on how to use one of Franks timing fixtures? I just got my fixture today.

No videos, but there is an instruction sheet. Once you get the hang of it you can set the points in minutes.

What type of meter do you have? Usually disconnect coils/condensors from points.

I use alligator clips on my test leads.

Coil over top of carb is TOP.

If new points, set to break at first hash mark, if used points, set to break dead center of the marks.

The instructions are in the factory service manual. I'm sure somebody will chime in with more info.

I have an analog and a digital volt ohm meter. I have the instructions. Some time it's just easier seeing someone do it.

Install points and tighten hold down screw for the points.-------Hook up coil wire and condenser to the points.----Disconnect ground wire on the coil.-----Hook one ohmeter lead to coil ground wire.------Hook other lead to the magplate.--Rotate fixture to line up mark with the 2 vertical marks.----Use cam screw to adjust points to just open.

I can take some pictures to help along for the first time.

You will notice your fixture has to pointers, one with "T" and one with a "B"

Disconnect the leads from the points. Hook 1 of the meter leads to the points that attach to the coil over the carb, the other to the mag plate. Now if you are installing new points, align the pointer with the "T" marked on it at the first vertical hash mark. (Align it in between the vertical hash marks if reusing the old points). Adjust the eccentric cam screw until the points just break. Then run it around a couple times, watching the meter to ensure it is perfect.

Then simply swap the leads. One lead going to the points going to the back coil, the other lead to mag plate. The fixture pointer with the B on it at the first hash mark on the mag plate and adjust/check as above.

When done, run a business card or paper stock dipped in acetone through the points to clean them. Fingerprints can limit spark. They must be spotless.

Re: Franks Timing Fixture.

does your digital meter have a diode setting with audible alarm? If so, thats the easiest way ive found to set the points with the fixture, you dont even need to look at the meter!!
