Hey Everyone,

I finally finished the initial restoration of the free miro craft aluminum boat I was given. It took about 50 hours of cleanup mostly.

I pulled out 2 garbage cans of trash out of the boat, then filled it with water to see if it leaked, then pulled everything off the boat, then the boat off the trailer and everything off the trailer.

I then wire brushed the entire trailer and started a krylon rattle can paint job to stop future rusting. I quit at 8 cans of paint. New lights, new strap winch, new tongue coupler and new bunks with new carpet just to get it ready. I think I will later put roller guides so it centers a little better.

Then the boat went back on and parts started to go back on it. New fire extinguisher, my 55lb Minn Kota, the old bimini top is real dirty but fully functional, found 2 pole holders in the pile of junk that came out of the boat, they still work, wire brushed the old mushroom anchor and had my son Jared paint it black.

About $150.00 later and we put it in the water for the first time in about 10 years. We are going to call it the "Here Fishy Fishy".

I think these 2 pictures tell it all, dont you?

Thanks for the hints around here, they really helped and inspired.

That smile really takes me back! When I was around that age I had a small wooden boat, she was a mighty fine ship, from'er hand made wooden steering wheel to'er sharp pointed bow, all 16 feet of'er, she sailed straight and true with'er little 5 Horse Briggs and Stratton Air Cooled motor. What a great time I used to have!

max!
