Free Prop will this work for me...

OK my brother in law gave me a stainless prop for my 1986 140 I/O the diff. This prop was made for a 4 1/4" gear case and I have a 4 3/4" I did actually install it and the fitment is great except for the portion of the prop that fits into the gear case is obviously smaller about 3/8". Will this allow exhaust gases to pass over the propeller? Has anyone tried this before? To be honest it looks like it would work.

new props are like 100$ why bother butching something together. if exhaust hits prop it will cause slip to be high and performance would suffer. all u can do with it is use for a spare to idle with.

Yeah after doing more research I decided to go and get a new one today $107.
