I need help, my deep freeze is 10 years old. Its
stopped freezing. I've moved all my meat out
around the neighborhood for safe keeping. :D
I noticed over the last few days that things were
starting to thaw. Once empty the freezer seems
cold but not freezing. I was told to turn the
freezer up side down for 10 minutes, this may
unclog the freon lines some how! Is
this possible, and is there any way to repair a
freezer or might it be best to just buy a new one.
you'd think you could get more than 10 years out
of a deep freeze.

Well,

Pretty soon, the winds of winter will roll thru Canada, and then you will not have to worry about that freezer, just keep your food out in that artic air, just watch out for the bears! LoL

I have never heard of turning over a refrigeration device to get it working again.

Sounds like you need a repairman to come look at that freezer.

Sorry I couln't help more.

Kenny

I just got back from purchasing a real deal. Aldies is selling a special purchase special 7' chest type freezer for $129.99, what a deal it is made by Whirlpool, for Aldie's. The gas refriges work off of heat, and must be kept leval, and if they get tipped to much, you have to turn them over to get the gas to the right place to start over, but I do not think this would apply to one with a compressor. :D :D

Sounds like either the compressor has become in effient (not able to pump)or freon has slowly leaked
or the drier in the system has become clogged.
Hence you need a repair man or new freezer.
the old gas absortion type freezers needed to be level and sometimes you could get them work again if you turnned them upside down for awhile ,but not freezers with compressors.

Be thankful you got 10 yrs out of it ,new ones won't last that long anymore.
Rich

Nosleep, do not turn that upside down as you will ruin your compressor. Is it frost free or do you have to defrost it yourself?

Re: freezing ,Help

Look in back or on bottom of freezer. There should be condenser lines (copper tubing). Chances are they are dirty. Take water and lots of clean rags and clean them real good. Had same problem with an old fridge. Replaced thermostat, played with cooling controls and even swore at it and nothing worked. Read in time life book about cleaning coils and it ran great after that.

If you have to tip it make sure you unplug it and let it sit upright for about 15 minutes before you plug it in again.

This also goes for central air and refridge/freezer

Re: freezing ,Help

Im not sure how to get to the coils, this unit
seems to be completely sealed. The wife tells me
it is 13 years old. The manufacturer or name
plate is Kelvinator. It has a small acceess
panel on the side at the bottom, There is a
switch inside the opening that controls on and
off and temperature. And a round shaped compressor
mounted on rubber pads. When I have the unit pluged
in the indicator light is on. But it makes no
noise not even a soft humm... I cant figure out
how to get to the coils.

NoSleep, check the condenser it should be right where the compressor is. Its probably clogged with dirt and dust bunnies. Get a portable air tank and blow the dirt and dust out.
