Fresh water system

I just bought a 97 Mainship Trawler. Aft water tank was empty and valve turned off. I decided to fill the tank and turn the valve on and have it in use in conjunction with the main tank. When I turn on a fawcet, the pump motor runs but no water, in fact when I turn off the fawcet the pump keeps running. When I turn the aft tank valve off and open a faucet, the pump runs for a while then finally starts to pump water. Any ideas? I don't see any leaks. Thanks

hi knotty.

what size of boat?

it is really hard to say with out schematics, however........you either have a leaking tank/line or a faulty pump.

she is sucking air from some where

Re: Fresh water system

Air is getting to the pump from the tank side of the valve. (This is proven by the fact that when you shut the valve the air is discharged and the pump again draws water
from the main tank). As the tank was out of use there was probably a problem with it previously. You will need to check all the connections between the tank and valve and I wouldn't be surprised to see signs of water leakage somewhere in the vicinity.
